When you started biking seriously in competition did you have any idea the journey it would take you on?
Nope! I was just riding and pushing myself, following any opportunity that came my way…
What would you be doing now if you didn’t have a career in biking?
Something creative, perhaps photographer or carpentry.
What is your biggest achievement in your career to date?
I would say it’s maintaining just one title sponsor, Norco Bicycles, for 18 years now.
What inspires you most about working with and helping young people realise and pursue their dreams?
They’re inspiring to me! It works both ways, young athletes have great hope and energy – I love being as honest and straight up as I can with them.
What’s your favourite movie?
The Matrix series – it goes deeper than meets than eye…

Leonardo DiCaprio or Adam Sandler

Moby or Nofx
What’s your biggest regret?
I can’t seem to get my head around the word regret! I may regret things momentarily or in the short term but they always seem to turn into valuable learnings – know what I mean?
If you could have the opportunity to give another sport a go on a global level what would that sport be?
I’m a mental fitness kind of guy, so golf would be my pick.
Where’s your favourite place to relax?
A beach by the ocean in the wilderness with no resorts nearby, and it doesn’t even have to warm or sandy, just wild.
What makes you angry?
I don’t really get angry, but I do get frustrated – particularly when things don’t work like they’re supposed to!
What are you most passionate about?
Learning, growing, and waking up to new perspectives.
What’s your best characteristic?
Taking risks (not physical daredevil risks but rather life choices) but also admitting when I have made a mistake!
And your most unappealing habit?
Picking at my toenails.
If you could order any three-course meal what would that meal be?
Organic fresh and healthy ingredients, prepared with care and presence, with good friends… and wine, and the chef would surprise us.
If you had to get stuck in an elevator with someone who would that person be?
Ken Wilber.
What are you most afraid of?
Getting a real job.

What drives you to keep pushing for success?
The beauty of the never ending circle of learning – progressing – sharing.
Which sports person do you most look up to?
In my sport – watching Hans Rey continually reinvent himself is inspiring to me.
