Adelaide Goodeve has travelled and explore the world but her next project may be just as daunting.

ADELAIDE GOODEVE has been adventurous since a young age; the Scouts refused her entry and the Brownies never quite cut it.

As the years have gone by Adelaide’s intrigue for the outdoors and exploring has only grown and she has travelled the world and engaged in cultures far and wide. However, her next project may be just as challenging as anything she has ever done before as she intend to connect adventurers from around together through her website http://www.lillywild.comand create a community for likeminded people on the web.

Read on to find out how she intends to do it and hear about some of her most daring explorations to date.

When did you first realise you had a passion for a adventure and what were any early signs of this in your childhood?

I have always been a bit of a tomboy, from an early age I loved exploring the woods, getting my hands dirty, wearing tracksuits and was passionate about animals. I tried to join the Scouts, but was turned down for being a girl and the Brownies just didn’t cut it. I was also obsessed with the Disney film Balto, which is loosely based on a true story about the husky dog, Balto, who helped save children from the diphtheria epidemic in the 1925 serum run to Nome. It captured my imagination of adventure, sledding and the Arctic.

Around the age of 16 I started to lose my way, trying to fit in with everyone else, listening to the media and I studied hard. I forgot about adventure and the value of experiences, and started to collect stuff. Then at 21 I had a wake up call, I was very unwell and started to re-discover my love for adventure, the Arctic and Antarctic. It was one thing that kept me going, that gave the inexorable drive to find full recover. And I haven’t looked back since.

What was your first adventure and did what it do to you inside to keep you pursuing your ambition to explore?

My first adventure was on a family holiday to Morocco at around 12. Before then, I had only been to countries with Western cultures and I remember being entranced by the sounds, smells, souks, people, the call to prayer, stunning architecture, maze of streets, delicious food and the culture.

We trekked for two days in the Atlas Mountains, which I had never done before and it was scary, but incredibly exciting at the same time! I had also never experienced poverty and remoteness until then.

Another highlight was galloping along the beach on a horse kept in a derelict building. The guide had picked me up at the hotel and taken me to his stables, my parents stayed behind! It was just me, this horse, the beach and the ocean with the wind whipping past my face. Amazing.

This holiday has stuck with me, my memories of Morocco are still very much alive. The experience of adventure and what it can do to you, no matter how big or small, drive me forward. How it stretches your comfort zone, teaches you something about the world and your self, the fascinating and kind people you meet along the way and the incredible experiences you pocket in your mind. Nothing can beat it.

Where else in the world has your need to explore taken you and tell us about some of the highlights?

My favourite adventures have all been solo, from travelling and teaching in India, working on a conservation park in Namibia, to working as a station hand in Australia, hiking in Nepal and working as a teaching assistant in China. I’ve also been on an expedition Ladakh where we spent a lot of time on a glacier and it was amazing!

I have also travelled around Mongolia on horseback and I’m planning on returning in 2018, I’ve been inspired by the film Unbranded and Tim Cope’s book On The Trail Of Genghis Khan.

Microadventures in England have all been super fun too!

Adelaide has enjoyed many cultural experiences around the world.

Tell us the idea behind www.lillywild.com and the service it offers to those with an interest in travel and adventure?

Lilly Wild (www.lillywild.com) is the guide to gear, clothing and urban escapes for the courageous explorer, for those who work in the city but live for the outdoors.

It is a place where wild explorations of the world come to life in the brands, products, trips and content we feature. But we also desire the sophistication and style of the big city, because we want the best of both worlds. We search for wild tales that push the boundaries and we express them in the brands we feature, our spoken and written word and our site’s design. Lilly Wild is a source of gear, clothing, stories and guides for the courageous explorer and we hope to meet you all out there!

What can our readers expect from your shop and journal?

We want to build a community where you can come to be inspired, motivated and juiced about life and adventure!

Our shop, which we’ll be launching in February, will be featuring small to medium European outdoor and lifestyle brands with strong ethical and environmental features.

Our journal (and soon, podcast!) will be a place to get tips, tricks, tools and tactics from role models, articles and resources; where you can come to learn how to unlock and unleash your best potential and live a happy and fulfilled life.

A life you love.

Adelaide’s business Lilly Wild aims to be a community for all those with a passion for adventure.

Who have been your biggest supporters and influences along the way?

My biggest supporters and influencers have been Belinda Kirk and her Explorers Connect community, Dave Cornthwaite and the Say Yes More tribe, Anna McNuff, Laura Kennington, Emma Walker, Megan Hine, Helen Turton from Newland Expeditions and the Escape The City community. Everyone has been really wonderfully supportive.

What exciting projects and adventures do you have planned for 2017 and beyond?

I’m super excited about 2017!

I’m currently training for a half iron man in July and a full in October, I will be building up my Mountain Leader days in the UK as I’m working towards my Summer Mountain Leader Award, I’m visiting Norway to undertake some winter training and in April I’m crossing Svalbard on cross country skis!

I’m also training to become a Neuro-Linguistic Programmer practitioner and life coach, which I’m thoroughly enjoying.

We’ve also got lots of plans for Lilly Wild in 2017, which I’m really looking forward to, including releasing a podcast!

And I have a couple of adventures which are bubbling away in my mind which I’m going to be putting onto paper in 2017 and will hopefully be embarking on them in 2018!
