Whether you’re travelling through Cambodia, Thailand, or Colombia, you get to enjoy some of the hottest temperatures you’ll ever experience. While high temperatures can be appealing, especially for those lazy days on the beach, the heat can get to you if you’re not careful.
If you’re not adequately prepared for the heat, you could suffer sunstroke, exhaustion, and much more that may put your travels or vacation at risk. But you can overcome these potential issues by staying cool wherever you go.
Lightweight Layers
Lightweight clothing is essential when travelling through hot climates, but you don’t want to risk getting sunburnt, so you still need some protection. Furthermore, shading your skin from direct sun exposure can keep it shaded, which may cool you down as well.
Lightweight and moisture-wicking clothing is ideal for a variety of tropical environments. You will be more comfortable wearing running gear if you are doing a lot of moving around, such as taking city walking tours or hiking. The material is lightweight and breathable so you won’t overheat.
Put Your Hair Up
Untamed hair will keep you warm when you’re out and about during your travels, but putting your hair up can solve this problem. You can pick many styles, from the casual ponytail or messy bun (especially if you’re just going out for breakfast) to the more stylish mermaid hair if you want to stay looking and look your best going on a night out or to dinner.
Not only will putting your hair up keep you cool, but it will also be more manageable as it isn’t constantly flicking around your face or sticking against your neck with perspiration.
Lighter Meals
You need to get plenty of energy while travelling, especially if you’re going on a hike or walking around the city exploring all day. However, while larger meals may give you this energy, they can also cause you to feel too hot, which would affect your overall comfort.
Instead, it’s better to eat smaller and lighter meals that still boast tons of nutrients that keep you energized. Chicken salads or anything with salmon are great ideas as they provide everything you need while conserving more energy since your body doesn’t mean to burn as many calories.
Lots of Hydration
You already know you should drink plenty of water while travelling. Above all else, it’s the best way to cool down when you’re on the move. You can drink a cup of water every fifteen minutes or gulp down a lot of water every hour depending on your situation.
In the meantime, there are other ways to stay hydrated. Bring a spray bottle with you to mist yourself (and others) while you’re walking around. A dip in the ocean or the hotel pool is another option to cool you down if you’re lounging around all day.
Find Some Shade
If all else fails, you can find some shade to cool down for a few minutes. There’s no point in charing on under a baking sun, so if you feel too hot or people in your group seem exhausted, look for some shade.
Of course, this is easier said than done sometimes, especially if you’re on a trail. It’s fine in the city because you can dip into a local bar or cafe to refresh and recharge. But on trails or other hiking routes, you may need to walk further. If you regularly feel too hot, you may benefit from bringing an umbrella.
Lotions and Potions
You can also find cooling gels and similar beauty products to bring with you on your travels. These products include safe and effective ingredients designed to cool your skin when applied. If you can’t find shade or are saving water during a long day outdoors, these products are a fantastic alternative that keeps you and the rest of your travel group comfortable.
Slow Down
Sometimes, it’s too hot to do anything, so how about just not doing anything at all? Although you want to see as much as possible during your travels, this should not be at the expense of your health and well-being. So, slow down and wait for the temperatures to drop. Many countries still offer tours or keep attractions open later in the day to accommodate the cooler temperatures so you won’t feel rushed.
Staying Cool
You don’t want too much heat to ruin your vacation, and there’s nothing noble about powering on even if you’re sweating buckets and exhausted. These tips will help you stay cool across various tropical or scorching locations to ensure you get as much as possible out of your trip.
