If you are keen to travel, and you also want to make sure that you are keeping fit, then you might want to combine the two and find some places where you can exercise. The best approach to this might well be to find some destinations that are good for walking, because those are bound to be particularly worthwhile, and can make for a beautiful place to visit as well. So let’s take a look at some examples of the sorts of places you might want to go in order to go for nice long walks.

Scottish Highlands

This is one area that you are definitely going to enjoy if you like being in the great outdoors and feeling the air in your lungs. The Scottish Highlands are easily some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, and you can spend many days or even weeks happily getting lost there. Whether you want to go camping or simply enjoy walking around a day or two and go back to your wood-fired cabin in the evening, it’s a stunning setting to enjoy, and especially so in the autumn or spring.

New York

It doesn’t always have to be nature that you go walking in, of course. Sometimes cities are good for this too – albeit cities that do offer you a little bit of nature as well. New York is the perfect example of a walking city, because you can either go and get lost in the many maze-like streets, or you can keep to the natural side and simply go for a stroll through Central Park in the heart of the city. In either case, it’s a beautiful place to walk, and one that can keep your entertained the whole while too.

Inca Trail

Some areas are of course designed specifically for a good walk, and the Inca Trail might be the world’s most famous example of that, or at least one of them. This ends up with a view of the historic temple at Machu Picchu, and it’s amazing to behold for sure. The walk itself is not actually that huge, so it’s perfectly doable for anyone who might be of at least average health and happy to walk for a few days – plus the spoils at the end absolutely make it worth your while. It’s definitely one to consider.

Nepal

In some senses, Nepal is absolutely built for walking. The locals are all very keen on walking, and yet it’s a country where no path is ever completely flat. This is, after all, a country built on the side of mountains, more or less. But if you have always wanted to trek the Annapurnas or the foothills of the Himalayas, then Nepal is the place you’ll need to go. What’s more, the extensive sherpa business out there means that you can have people carry your bags for you, making it a particularly easy trek. Plus, the land and the people are beautiful.
