Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast looking for new horizons to explore, Benidorm offers breathtaking views that are sure to captivate your senses and provide a memorable outdoor experience. Situated along the Costa Blanca, this popular destination is known for its pristine beaches, scenic landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

The undulating terrain provides a vast amount of hiking trails for all levels of adventurers. So lace up your boots and get ready to be immersed in natural beauty on these three most stunning hiking routes in Benidorm.

Sierra Helada Natural Park (Serra Gelada)

The Sierra Helada Natural Park, aka Serra Gelada, is a must-visit for anyone traveling to this stunning region. With over 5,000 hectares of protected coastline, you can embark on several routes through unique flora and vegetation as you gently make your way up to the top of these ancient cliffs. Keep an eye out for fossils in the limestone and for dolphins in the waters below using the free telescope at Punta Bombarda (the lighthouse on the summit).

Home to flora micro reserves, fossil dunes and a wide variety of nesting birds, this area is vital for biodiversity. Much of the protected reserve includes the water, and provides sanctuary for rare fish, invertebrates and crustaceans. A pair of binoculars and sturdy footwear are essential to get the most out of a sunny hike through this incredible natural park.

Puig Campana

For those seeking a more challenging experience, Puig Campana is waiting for you. This majestic mountain stands tall at 1,410 meters, offering a rewarding climb with unparalleled views over the coastline. The circular route is classified as high difficulty and will take between six to seven hours, but the views at the summit are well worth the effort if you’re an experienced mountaineer.

The imposing silhouette of the mountain features an iconic slit, the origin of which features in several Spanishlegends. Regardless of whether the gap in the mountain was caused by a giant attempting to save the love of his life or not, it’s believed that the hallmark of Puig Campana was used by ancient sailors as a method of orientation. Interestingly, the sun can be seen setting directly through the gap at the times of the summer solstice.

Sierra de Bernia

The spectacular hiking route through Sierra de Bernia is one of the most charming in the Valencian Community. Start in Altea Old Town, a quaint, pretty town poised on a hillside overlooking the turquoise sea; and after a delicious Spanish breakfast on a rooftop terrace, begin your ascent into the Sierra de Bernia mountains. As you hike, you’ll be surrounded by panoramic views of the valleys and coast.

This route also provides historical value. Along the way, you’ll pass ruins of a 16th-century fortress and cave paintings dating back over 5,000 years. Be sure to prepare yourself for the stunning views as you pass through Forat de Bernia, a natural stone tunnel within the mountain range.

Best of both worlds

Wherever you choose to hike in Benidorm, you won’t be disappointed. As a largely unspoilt region, this stunning coastline provides the best of both worlds for those seeking balmy beaches and mountain walks.
