When did your passion for biking begin and who encouraged you in the early days?

I started riding bicycles at 2 years old. My father was a professional motorcycle racer so our household was always about 2 wheels! In the early 1980’s BMX racing was huge and races were advertised in newspapers and on local radio stations. My mum took me along to my first ever race when I was 4 years old in 1982 and I finished 2nd.

I was given a huge plastic trophy and that was it! Hooked on the sport.

What are your early memories of the sport and who influenced you?  Tell us about any early successes you had.

My early memories were, if I did my school work, then my parents would take me racing. It was a fair deal and a lesson that really taught me that if you work hard you get the rewards. I have only ever been influenced by my parents. I like being individual and forming my own path.

Where around the world has the sport taken you to?

I have been very lucky. Racing bicycles has taken me to every continent and many countries around the world. Highlights for me would be Japan, Australia, South Africa, Columbia, USA, Canada and all across Europe.

What are your biggest accomplishments in racing to date?

Racing has been very good to me. In BMX I have won 10 British Championship titles and that career was crowned by becoming a two times World Champion.

On the mountain bike I have been National Champion 10 times, European Champion twice and I am currently World ranked number 2.

What are you currently training for and what are your aspirations for the future?

The 2023 4X ProTour begins next weekend in Winterberg, Germany. I am looking forward to going after the World number 1 this year.

Who do you most admire in the world of biking?

I admire all pro motocross, Moto GP, Speedway, BSB and Road Racing riders – all motorcycles.

Tell us about setting up Beaumont Racing and how you can help younger riders to improve in the sport?

I set up Beaumont Racing in 2004. I wanted to be in control of all my sponsorship and not rely on teams providing everything for me. It was the best decision I ever made.

Younger riders need to focus on having fun, but also harnessing the frustration when they lose. Consider why you lost and try to improve on those areas. Hard work is what always leads to results.
